North Island Native Chick

This exclusive resident of New Zealand is sometimes referred to as an “honorary mammal” due to it’s non-bird like appearance and behavior. A flightless bird that has both whiskers and plumage that is more hair-like than feathers. Nocturnal by nature, it is the only bird with nostrils at the end of it’s beak which it uses to sniff out worms, larvae and other foods among the forest floor. Here is the North Island Brown Kiwi.
