Swift, sleek and sharp – three words that describe these amazing animals. The fastest of all sharks, the Shortfin Mako can maintain speeds of more than 20mph and bursts that exceed 50mph.
Their sleek body (as long as 13 feet) and signature short fins are distinguishing marks but perhaps even more noticeable are their extremely sharp teeth – which are typically visible even when the Mako's mouth is closed.
Like their cousins, the Great White, the Shortfin Mako is a warm blooded creature who feed on a variety of fast-swimming fish species such as tuna, mackerel and even other sharks.
Impressive in the water, these sharks are also powerful jumpers, sometimes leaping as high as 20 feet out of the water!
