With a sickle-like tail that can be as long as its entire body, these highly athletic sharks are one of the most recognizable species.
With a soecialized hunting technique, Thresher Sharks often use their long tail to stun fish. There are three known species of threshers, the largest (at nearly 20 feet long including the tail) is the Common Thresher Shark.
The Thresher Shark is found in cool to temperate waters throughout the world. It's common prey include tuna, mackerel and even seabirds.
Typically found alone and hunting in deeper open waters, the small mouth and shy nature of these predators makes them mostly harmless to humans.
